What is different about Therapeeze as an Occupational Therapy service?

Here at Therapeeze a bottom up approach, working to understand the body and the brain and how each individual child experiences the world around them.

First and foremost is regulation, without a regulated body ALL skills will be affected, that is EVERYONEs experience.
✨Ever been stressed and not been able to explain something as you would like to? That is because of dysregulation and your communication being affected!

Regulation happens in the lower brain, without this other higher levels of the brain such as motor, sensory and executive functioning skills will be extremely hard to develop and children in all honesty won't be able to access them, resulting in......you guessed it, behaviour!
✨ Ever used a behaviour chart and the child not respond to it? That is because it requires higher level brain activity which the child is unable to reach. (so don't give up, there are other ways!)

Interoception based approach and not cognitive strategies to nurture emotional regulation.
✨ Talking through situations and reflecting on emotions challenging for your child? Interoception is key!

Ever thought repeated exposure to a sensory environment will support desensitization for the child/young person? This is a old way, here at Therapeeze we focus on sensory safety within the body and therefore, within the environment resulting in comfort.

So when you are thinking about Therapeeze as a private Occupational Therapist, we are, but we work foundationally with the body to re-wire the brain, enhancing regulation and supporting everyday. Focusing on getting the root cause of what is causing the behaviour and addressing it head on to enhance the individuals future. 

Ever been stressed when supporting your child's behaviour and it escalating into something it shouldn't have? Co-regulation is why we support the parents and families, not JUST the child with SPD. 

Ever had thoughts or teachers say, he needs to learn to self-regulate? Let me tell you, self-regulation is not a natural thing we are born with, it needs to be taught, if the foundational issues aren't supported along with co-regulation, self-regulation will continue to be a challenge, no matter what visual charts you put in place!

So no, you won't see me doing 'stereotypical' fine motor activities and giving out equipment. Here at Therapeeze, we want the child and family to be able to function effectively throughout the environments.

Working foundationally in this way helps all of the skills parents and teachers are working on because of their regulation!
